Harmony Historical Society’s Annual Harvest Festival & Quilt Show

Harmony Historical Society’s Annual Harvest Festival and Quilt Show will be held on Saturday, September 15 and Sunday, September 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day (rain or shine) at the historical society’s campus at 1943 Open Meadows Road in Blockville. Admission and parking are free.

The festival features living history demonstrations by Civil War Reenactors, the Texas 1st Volunteer Infantry.

A great lineup of live music each day provided by Old Dawg, Davis & Eng, Picks & Hammers and the Bonnie Loch Fiddlers.

The festival features the Golden Needle Quilters Quilt Show; weaving and spinning demonstrations by the Chautauqua County Weavers Guild, the South Shore Weavers Guild and the Hilltop Spinners. Demonstration also include longbow making by Kim Mason; chair caning by Yesterday’s Treasures, Dun Roving Farm Alpacas, Blacksmith and Log Hewing by John Stow and Johnson’s Antique Engines. Merchants include Big Tree Maple, Country Kettle Corn, Wacky Bee Honey, Studio J. Papercraft, Wanda Buerkle’s Herbal Soaps and Lotions, Linda Mason Designs, Crafts by Jennie and Valerie Dibble, Whittier Farms and more.

The Gently Used Book Sale and Grannie’s Attic is back again this year.

Ed Trisket will be providing horse drawn wagon rides from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day.

Our historic buildings will be open and manned by living history demonstrators. These include the District #1 One Room School House, the 1830’s Matson House, the Nagel Weaving Shed and the Butts Barn. The newest addition to the historical society’s artifacts, Blinky Litzinger’s jalopy raced at Roll-O-Bowl, will be on display. The Waite Building library will be open and feature exhibits about North Harmony history as the town will be celebrating its centennial in 2019.

The historical society’s ever popular and affordable menu of sloppy joes, Italian sausage, hot dogs, homemade soup, chili, chicken sandwiches and pie will be available.

The Golden Needle Quilters are raffling a hand quilted queen size quilt, Red Double X in red and cream colors. Tickets are available presale by calling 782-4688 or 782-3027. Tickets will also be available during the festival. The drawing for the quilt and hand woven items donated by the South Shore Weavers Guild will be at the end of the day on Sunday. You need not be present to win.

The historical society will also be conducting a Chinese Auction and Silent Auction and selling the Historical Society’s Cookbook and Roll-O-Bowl DVD. You can renew your membership or join the historical society during the festival.

Proceeds are used for the operating expenses of the Historical Society. The Harmony Historical Society was established in 1972 and received its charter from the New York State Education Department in 1976. Its purpose is to aid the preservation and development of local history of the Old Town of Harmony (now divided into Harmony and North Harmony.)
