Audubon Community Nature Center
Jamestown, N.Y. – A road trip and hike highlight Audubon Community Nature Center’s First Friday Lunch Bunch on August 3.
At 11 a.m., those interested in enjoying this outdoor opportunity can meet at the parking lot on the north side of Route 474 between Panama and the junction with Route 76 (GPS 42.07509, -79.51834). From there, participants will carpool or caravan to a backroad location a bit closer to where they will hike to the Warner Road Lean-tos.
Tom Erlandson, who has long served on the Chautauqua County Parks Commission, will be on hand to relate the history of the park system and this trail.
The hike is short, but there are some steep parts.
A BYO brown bag picnic lunch on the banks of a picturesque pond completes the experience, which concludes at 1 p.m.
Participants are reminded to bring plenty of water in a daypack for easy carrying and dress for the weather, including hiking shoes/boots, sun and insect protection.
The fee for attending is $8 or $6 for Nature Center Members. Registrations are accepted online on the Programs page at auduboncnc.org through Thursday, August 2. Walk-ins are welcome, and having exact change would be appreciated.
Audubon Community Nature Center is located at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown, N.Y., and Warren, Pa. To learn more, call (716) 569-2345 during business hours or visit the Programs page at auduboncnc.org.
