Join us for the opening reception of “Selected Works by Tom Busch” on Friday, March 9, 6:30-9:30 PM at the Project 308 Gallery located at 308 Oliver Street, North Tonawanda, NY 14120. This solo exhibition will feature work by Buffalo native, Tom Busch. “Selected Works” will showcase his works depicting faces and figures in environments that are both recognizable and metaphorical.
Busch began making images in 1973 as a still photographer and filmmaker while attending State University of New York at Buffalo. His personal films were screened in galleries in Western New York and in several national and international shows. In 1980 Tom relocated to Chicago where he worked on television commercials and small films as a lighting technician. In the early 90s he began producing and production managing feature films and television shows. During his time filming on location, Busch also drew and painted, being inspired by the many cities and the people he met while working.
“Selected Works” will showcase Busch’s more recent drawings and paintings. Presented with contrasting and vibrant colors we see faces looking at us as we view them. Busch invites us to consider the status of the people portrayed within their environments and our relationship with them as we respond to our own world, both public and private. Using paints, pencils, inks, waxes and pastels his cast of characters command their given space in a manner that feels neither staged nor awkward. They stand in postures that clearly asks us to look and examine them in a way that allows us to join them. The figures featured in his work vary from personal friends, political figures and his imagined “person on the street.”
After 35 years of living in various cities in the U.S., Busch and his wife, Diane have recently returned to Buffalo where Tom now devotes himself fulltime to the creation of new works. Busch is thrilled to showcase his first solo exhibition at the Project 308 Gallery, not far from his hometown neighborhood of Riverside.
“Selected Works by Tom Busch” will be on view from March 9- April 7. The Project 308 Gallery will be open 12-3pm on Saturdays, Sundays and by appointment. For questions about the show contact Natalie at 716-523-0068. To make an appointment to see the show call Tom at 1-310-689-8244.
