Liberty Vineyards Earns Best of Show Rosé Wine at International Competition

Liberty Vineyards & Winery, of Sheridan, received a number of prestigious awards recently at the  Florida State Fair International Wine Competition, including Best of Show Blush/Rosé for its “Reds, Whites & Blues” wine. “Reds, Whites & Blues” is a sweet, fruity rosé and Liberty’s most popular wine.

Besides the Best of Show honor, Liberty earned double gold for its Rufus Red wine, a semi-dry red named after owner Gary Burmaster’s great-grandfather, Sheldon “Rufus” Butler, who planted their first vineyards in the 1860s. The winery also earned gold medals for its 2016 Sparkling Riesling, a sparkling wine fermented in the bottle in the traditional method and its Purple Haze, a sweet, fruity Concord wine.

In addition to the gold medals, Liberty also brought home silvers for Noiret, Traminette, Fredonia, Cool Cat, White Side of the Moon, Diamond, Cat Noir and Chocolette wines and bronzes for 2016 Carménère, Quarter-Mile Red, 2016 Chardonnay, 2016 Pinot Grigio, 2016 Riesling, 2012 Davenport and 2016 Catawba Ice Wine.

“We are very pleased with the variety of wines that won awards—everything from sweet to dry and red to white. Table wines, ice wine, sparkling wine, port-style wine. It really shows the great variety of high quality wines we produce,” said Pam Burmaster, who owns the winery with her husband, Gary. “We usually just ship our wines to the competitions, but we were lucky to get to see our wine on display at this year’s Florida state fair during our vacation,” she continued.

Besides all of the medals won at the Florida competition, Liberty also recently won a Gold medal for its 2016 Catawba Ice Wine at the International Eastern Wine Competition held in California.

Liberty Vineyards & Winery produces over 20 wines. The winery is family-owned and operated and located at 2861 Route 20 in Sheridan, NY. The tasting and sales room is open Monday-Saturday 10am-6pm and Sundays 11am-5pm. Visit for more information.
