The Presidents Day Weekend Winter Festival, taking place February 16 – 18, 2018 at Lakeside Park in Mayville NY is right around the corner. Many events and activities will fill this festival weekend, insuring a fun time for all. Opening ceremonies in front of the ice castle will take place on Friday, Feb. 16th beginning at 6 p.m. Hours of the festival at the Lakeside Park are 10 a.m. – after the 8 p.m. fireworks on Saturday, Feb. 17th and 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18th. The ice castle construction crew are hard at work creating a beautiful ice structure that is a special highlight of this annual winter festival. Of special note this year, parking at the festival on Sunday, Feb. 18th will be free. There will a parking fee requested on Saturday, Feb. 17th, however. Non-profit groups will man the parking lots on that Saturday to help raise funds for their organizations, as well as raising funds that will go back into the festival next year. These organizations very much appreciate your support.
Some of the events with specific times at the festival on Saturday, Feb. 17th, are the Polar Plunge at 2 p.m., the chili cookoff from 2 – 4 p.m. in the tent (chili needs to be dropped off by 1:30 p.m.), the pet parade at 4 p.m. (meet outside the Community Center), Cold Water Rescue Demo by Dewittville Fire Dept. at 1:30 p.m. just before the Polar Plunge, bonfire at 6:30 p.m., flare parade (weather permitting) at 7 p.m., fireworks at 8 p.m, as well as two contests (Snowball Distance Throwing at 3 p.m. and Lego Building Contest held throughout the weekend). On Sunday, Feb. 18th two more contests will be held –
The golfball race at 1:30 p.m. (meet at the chamber table in the Community Center) and the Snowman/Animal Building Contest held throughout the day on Sunday, with judging taking place at
2:30 p.m. Those making a snow creation for the contest should bring their own accessories, with judging based on creativity.
A few more community events have come on board for this year’s event. ‘Warm Up With Art’, will be taking place at two locations on both Saturday and Sunday of the Festival weekend – Two Lakes Studios at 38 S. Erie St., uptown Mayville and Portage Gallery located on Rt. 394 2.5 miles north of the uptown Mayville four corners. Two Lakes will feature an Artisan Market, warm up by their fire, have some hot chocolate, and shop regional artists. Portage Gallery will feature a new block print and have a drawing for one of the prints, as well as past prints being on sale. Hours for this event is 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Portage Gallery will also serve hot fudge sundae tastings and hot mulled cider from 2 – 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18th. So-Ly Yours Fitness & Coaching, 32 S. Erie St. uptown Mayville will also offer free classes on Saturday, Feb. 17th from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Just walk on in and join the fun!
