Dunkirk, N.Y., ─ Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation (NCCF) is now accepting applications for the Service Learning Mini-Grants Program. Local middle and high school teachers are encouraged to apply for projects that combine community service and classroom learning.
In 2017, NCCF awarded nine grants to five school districts totaling $4,225 for this school year. Classrooms from all disciplines participate in this program: health, music, English, art, trades and much more. As an example, the BOCES’ Partnering with Pets project paired juniors and seniors enrolled in the Animal Science Program with the Lakeshore Humane Society.
NCCF’s Applebee’s Flapjack Breakfast and Basket Raffle Fundraiser supports the Service Learning Program. Community members are invited to join board, staff and volunteers for this year’s fundraiser on Saturday, March 24, 2018. Over $2,200 was raised last year for the 2017-2018 school year program.
Applications for the next round of grants are due to NCCF by March 31, 2018. New this year is the option for teachers to apply electronically from the NCCF website, www.nccfoundation.org/service-learning. The committee will review all applications and announce the awards in June 2018. Visit the website to learn more about this program.
