If you are one of those folks who looks for a worthy cause to support during the holidays, Audubon Community Nature Center knows how you can help kids in a big way.
A growing body of research finds that free, unstructured play benefits kids socially, physically, emotionally and academically.
With a contribution to the Nature Play Fund on Giving Tuesday, November 28, you will join with Audubon to invest in kids and their wellbeing. You will be supporting Little Explorers, Nature Play Days, and the Nature Play Area at the Nature Center
Donations on this international day of giving will go directly to enriching children’s activities. A total of $2,400 will provide affordable programming for a year. More will help sprinkle the Nature Play Area with materials that spark curiosity and imagination.
Each donor will receive a voucher good for one child admission to Little Explorers or a Nature Play Day.
You can donate on-line by going to auduboncnc.org and clicking on the link in upper black bar.
You can also support Audubon by beginning your holiday shopping at the Blue Heron Gift Shop in the Nature Center, where you will find everything from nature-related books and field guides, adult coloring books and nature journals to t-shirts, polo shirts, and jackets. You will also want to check out the travel mugs, puppets, puzzles, distinctive jewelry, notecards and stationery, handcrafted walking sticks, locally-made soaps, and more.
The Nature Center’s year-round hours are now 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sundays.
There is never an admission fee to explore the Gift Shop. Sundays are free admission days for the Nature Center, where visitors can enjoy displays of local reptiles and amphibians, plus tanks of fish. Other indoor exhibits include Frogs, Energy, and Pollination. There is also seating to observe a beautiful view of birds, chipmunks, squirrels and sometimes even deer at the birdfeeders.
Audubon Community Nature Center is located at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown, N.Y., and Warren, Pa. To learn more, call (716) 569-2345 during business hours or visit the Programs page at auduboncnc.org
