With a close eye on the weather forecast, Dennis Eshbaugh, President of Holiday Valley Resort announced today that they will open for the winter season on Friday, November 24 at 9:00am. The snowmaking crew has been firing up the automated snowmaking system during the cold snaps over the past weeks to make over 80 acre feet of snow, and they expect to be able to make more snow in the cold weather predicted on Wednesday night. The grooming crew has “frosted the cake” by spreading the snowmaking whales out over the slopes to be ready for skiers and riders on Friday morning. “Weather permitting, we will be running the Yodeler and Tannenbaum lifts servicing Yodeler slope, Candy Cane, Laurel, Punchbowl and Sugar Plum, Tannenbaum and upper Crystal,” according to Eshbaugh.
Opening day lift tickets are $50 for any 8 hours. Classic Passes and Ultimate White Passes are valid through the weekend. The Inn at Holiday Valley’s “Black Friday” offer is 2 free lift tickets when booking a room from now through December 24.
The weather forecast is favorable for snowmaking and more lake effect snow next week so more lifts and slopes (Mardi Gras and Creekside) are anticipated to open on Friday, December 1.“Traditionally we target the Friday after Thanksgiving to kick off the winter season, and it is great to be able to hit that target this year. Mother Nature has been helpful, but our automated snowmaking system is what really makes it possible,” commented Eshbaugh. The automated snowmaking system from HKD Snowmakers is the largest of its kind in the Eastern US and it allows Holiday Valley snowmakers to make snow more efficiently in short windows of opportunity.
